President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated a 25-tonne ice factory on Gaafaru Island in the Kaafu Atoll on December 10th in which he was also visiting for the 41st annual National Fishermen's Day celebrations. The President was accompanied on the trip by Vice President Faisal Naseem and other officials.
The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company was awarded the MVR 3.5 million project to establish an ice plant and a 50-tonne cold storage by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture (MIFCO).
The President and Vice President then witnessed a fish filleting competition. The Vice President also unveiled a monument in the port area that represents the fishing community's warm and welcoming spirit. As part of the festivities, the Fisheries Ministry is hosting a Fisheries Expo. The President introduced five new MIFCO products while touring the exposition.
