BML Announces The Refurbishment Plan Of The National Library

The Bank of Maldives has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Library of the Maldives to renovate the current facility during an event that took place on December 9th, 2021.

BML's CEO and Managing Director, Timothy Sawyer and Minister of State for Arts, Culture, and Heritage, Mohamed Toriq signed the MOU. The BML's Board of Directors and Executive Management were in attendance at the event, which took place at the National Library.

The Bank will renovate the whole library, including the main reading space, Kiyavathi discussion room, silent reading and study room, Makers Space, and National Collection room, as part of the project. Existing facilities will be improved with new computer systems, audio and video booths for digitalization, and a security system will be implemented for the first time at the facility.

Speaking at the ceremony, the CEO of Bank of Maldives, Tim Sawyer appreciated the library being a popular spot in the community for all ages. He also highlighted this initiative being the second of the bank’s 40th anniversary initiatives which will see major projects implemented that will benefit the community.

As the first monthly program, the Bank introduced the 'BML Scholarship Fund.' The scholarship fund will fund overseas scholarships for three students with the goal of fostering young brilliant Maldivians in the field of banking and finance.
