Fishing is the second largest economic country carried out Maldives, and is considered as the lifeblood of our people. Commercial value to the industry however was added in the 1970s. Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) is renowned for being the pioneer and leading force in the Maldivian fisheries industry.
MIFCO began their 27-year-old journey in 1993 under the name Fisheries Projects Implementation Department (FPID) which was later rebranded to MIFCO in 2005. At present they conduct the largest fish procurement operation nationwide. They practice sustainable and responsible fishing by using the environmental friendly traditional fishing method, Pole and Line. Currently they run 20 ice plants, 14 collector vessels and 04 operational sites across the nation, employing a total of 1692 persons. The distribute their products both locally and internationally. Its main export products consist chilled, frozen, canned fished in addition to pouches and fish meals. Under its brand Fasmeeru, targeted towards the locals, they sell canned, frozen and dried tuna, Maldivian fish paste (rihaakuru), diamondback squid, reef fish, pouches, tuna considments, ready to cook tuna products etc.
In celebration of its 27th anniversary, the Company’s CEO, Mr. Ismail Fauzee sent his greetings to his employees. Apart from this, several of its regional complexes held flag hosting ceremonies to start off the day. Additionally, sports activities have been held and will be held within these days in the occasion across different islands nationwide to mark the anniversary.
