Fishermen’s Forum 2021 Kicks-off With A Successful First Day

The Fishermen’s Forum 2021, initiated by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources & Agriculture, is solely dedicated to re-evaluate all the issues faced by the fishermen and the industry in Maldives.

The Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources & Agriculture, Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan inaugurated the Fishermen’s Forum in the ceremony that took place at K.Gaafaru Island on December 8th, 2021.

Speaking at the forum, Minister Hussain highlighted the importance of listening to the fishermen’s issues and working together to overcome the difficulties faced by the fishermen in order to successfully carry out one of the biggest markets in the country.

Minister Hussain stressed on the high duty charges Maldives face on exporting to European Union countries and the works that are underway in order to resolve this matter.

In the Fishermen’s Forum 2021 that will carryout for two days, more issues were discussed among the industry partners, fishermen from the area and the Ministry, in which importance difficulties were raised.

To note a few issues being discussed in the forum, the less chances given out to sell Maldivian Fish products in the high-selling markets, high oil prices and costly charges to carry-out fishing operations.
