The administration, stated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, is aiming to improve services for children and persons with disabilities. The President made the remarks during a ceremony to deliver the Riveli Awards 2021 on December 4th, where he was accompanied by First Lady, Fazna Ahmed.
President Solih noted that the administration established a program in 2019 to incorporate therapeutic treatment within the Aasandha National Health Insurance Scheme, highlighting the government's actions aimed at improving services for children and adults with disabilities. Under the project, the state contributed MVR 3.1 million in 2019, MVR 7.2 million in 2020, and MVR 18.2 million by the end of October 2021.
President Solih emphasized the government's efforts to make mobility aids and assistive technologies more accessible to the persons with disabilities, noting that the government had maintained to give monthly disability allowances even during the Covid-19 outbreak. He also stressed the need of giving those with disabilities with care, love, and compassion.
Riveli Awards 2021 were awarded to six recipients by President Solih and specific logo was unveiled for use on items developed for children with special needs, as well as a logo for their mobility aids, at the occasion. The First Lady gave special awards to the seven winners of the "Riveli Thari" competition, which was designed to highlight the skills of youngsters with impairments.
