Maldives Marine Research Institute made an announcement stating that they have been receiving reports of potential Algal Blooms around the Maldives.
An algal bloom, also known as an algae bloom, is a rapid rise or accumulation of algae in freshwater or marine water systems, which can be identified by the coloring of the water caused by their pigments. The colors may vary from red to brownish to a dark green.
These Algal Blooms can turn pretty deadly since they produce extremely dangerous toxins that can sicken or kill people or fish in the sea. These blooms can also affect the industries making drinking water in the country since the water is extracted from the sea.
Hence, the Research Institute has reached out to the public to keep an eye out for these deadly bacteria’s around the oceans and has requested to report such cases to the institute immediately in order to track it’s spread and take necessary action.
