A meeting was conducted on November 30th where the President, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Vice President, Faisal Naseem along with other official members met with the Education Sector – Research group, to identify the difficulties faced by the teachers in the educational sector of Maldives.
Accompanying the President and the VP, Minister of Education, Dr Aishath Ali and the Special Advisor on Social Policy at the President’s Office, Dr Mustafa Lutfi partook in the meeting.
During the meeting, President Solih addressed about the significance of undertaking research in the education sector, emphasizing that it would help discover the causes for a lack of interest in pursuing careers in the field.
He also stated that the findings will benefit reform initiatives aimed at enhancing educational quality, teacher capacity, wage increases and addressing concerns of undue influence in schools. The President also expressed his faith in the research group's ability to undertake a comprehensive investigation.
The Vice President remarked at the meeting that the study would contribute to the advancement of the education sector by finding significant concerns outside of the study's major aims. Experts in education policy and planning, human resources, sociology, training, and finance make up the six-member Education Sector Research Group.
The members of the committee briefed the President on the progress of their research, noting that their research proposal had been approved and that data gathering activity was presently underway. They went on to say that the research sample had been determined, that focus group interviews were being conducted, and that survey questionnaires for teachers were being created.
