Unveiled by the Vice President of Maldives, Faisal Naseem, ‘Ufanveni’, the first reproductive health center to open in an island other than Male’ City, has opened in Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH), broadening the health care system provided to patients in Maldivian Islands.
‘Ufanveni’ came into being by KRH, in association with United Nations Population Fund; for The UN’s Sexual and Reproductive Health agency - empowering the youth, ensuring reproductive health rights and gender equality (UNFPA Maldives). The center was funded by Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade: promoting & protecting, Australia.
VP Faisal highlighted the importance of decentralizing services including health care. He further stated the wise decisions made by the President, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in recovery efforts amid the global pandemic.
Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Community Health Officer of KRH, Sameena Mohamed reflected on the importance of reproductive health, health education and preventive care for women and adolescents.
Furthermore, the importance of minimizing Gender Based Violence and maternal deaths along with preventing child marriages and Female Genital Mutilation was highlighted by the Head of UNFPA, Maldives, Shadiya Ibrahim. She also addressed Ufanveni as a one-stop solution for women and adolescents.
