MACL Denies International Claims Of Cancelling Flights At VIA

Winter season, known as the busiest time of the year for Velana International Airport in Maldives, has the highest recording set of flight arrivals and departures to the country. With this regard, since 2018, Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL) has been releasing a detailed circular for all international flights with important instructions to follow in order to carry out the busy day-to-day operations as smoothly as possible.

The circular notifies the international flights of the peak season of tourism that have increased operations at the airport, advising them to carry at least 45-minutes worth of extra holding fuel and to understand the busy schedule of the airport might not be able to give the flight priority every time. MACL has also advised in the circular for the flights to stay on schedule to avoid further mishap.

Recently, MACL has had to deny the claims made by the international media of Switzerland claiming that the airport had to cancel flights in order to stay on schedule during the winter season in regards to the circular.

The company denied any such incident had happened since the airport noted all international airlines are provided slots under the respective international regulations, adding some airlines are also requesting an increase of slots at the airport. The company said all airlines will be given an equal opportunity to attain slots, based on the capacity of the airport.
