Island Councils To Authorize Designated Parking Slots In Islands

The government of Maldives has gazetted a new regulation in which the island councils get the authority to designate parking slots in the islands. In the regulation, the councils have to designate free parking areas as well as the chargeable parking slots in different areas of the islands.

The councils will also have the authority to decide the amount they will be taking as a fee, which should be not more than the fee authorized by the Transport Ministry. For the people parking their vehicles against this regulation will be fined MVR 250 for first time offences and MVR 750 for repeated offences.

The regulations has been set from yesterday on wards and the councils are expected to overlook and disburse the information to the island residents in a proper manner as instructed by the Ministry of Transport.
