At a ceremony held on November 17th’s afternoon at the President's Office, the new High Commissioner of the Republic of India to the Republic of Maldives, Munu Mahawar, presented his credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The President greeted the new High Commissioner to the Maldives and congratulated him on his appointment and highlighted the two countries' tight bilateral relations. He emphasized that the Maldives and India have a unique relationship and that no other country can replace India.
India's new High Commissioner, Munu Mahawar expressed heartfelt greetings on behalf of India's President and Prime Minister. He then congratulated the Maldives' administration for its accomplishments over the last three years, praising, in particular, efforts to restrict the spread of Covid-19 and numerous steps forward in the country's economic recovery. The President and the High Commissioner emphasized their desire for continued cooperation and support in all endeavors to benefit both countries. They also committed to deepen bilateral ties in areas of mutual interest, such as socioeconomic development, human resource development, security cooperation, and climate change.
Climate change, according to the President, is one of the Maldives' most important challenges, and the country will continue to fight for more aggressive climate action. He then praised Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, for his pledge to reduce India's emissions to zero by 2070 at the COP26 session. Finally, the President expressed his optimism that both countries will continue to rise under the leadership of the High Commissioners. Both the President and the High Commissioner expressed their optimism for the future of the two nations' strong relationship.
