‘Practice Parliament Series’ was launched by the Maldivian Parliament in association with United Nations Development Maldives and in assist by Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia. This program consists of two development sectors that are ‘Practice Parliament for Youth’ and ‘Practice Parliament for Women’. Through this program, women and youth are encouraged to take part in governmental and parliament issues, to develop more leaders and to take responsibility in politics.
‘Practice Parliament for Women’ program is aimed for the praise towards women in politics, encouragement to take part in decision-making for the community and the development of the country. The program is divided into two components, one being where participants are informed on the fundamental of civic education, key parliamentary processes and relevant policy issues followed by a Practice Parliament Sitting where they perform parliamentary proceedings.
All women aged 25 and older and currently living in Maldives are encouraged to join. Women participating must be able to fully commit to the full duration of the course – however, flexibility is offered for women who require it due to personal reasons. Slots will also be reserved for Persons with Disabilities for the event. Forty slots are open for registering in which the deadline is November 29th. The event is set to be held from December 12th to 15th in Male’.
