‘Spread Awareness & Stop Resistance’ At The Antimicrobial Awareness Virtual Run 2021

Antimicrobials – including antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals and antiparasitics – are medicines used to prevent and treat infections in humans, animals and plants. All around the world, bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites are changing, and no longer respond to the medicines used to treat the infections they cause. This antimicrobial resistance makes infections harder to treat, which increases the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death. Antimicrobial resistance emerges naturally, usually through genetic changes. However, the overuse and misuse of antimicrobials in humans, livestock and agriculture has accelerated the process, as has lack of clean water and sanitation, and inadequate infection prevention and control.

Help spread awareness by participating in the nationwide virtual run through the official registration website. Registrations are open to the public for 5k. The run that has to be completed from November 18th to November 24th, requires runners to record their distance only via Strava, Adidas Running, Nike Running, Asics Runkeeper, Garmin Connect or Virtual Finisher Medal application. Runners must use Runners Portal to upload Run stats including distance and time. When it is uploaded, runners will get a virtual finisher medal on the website. Finishers will also get a reusable water bottle after the event.
