President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated the opening ceremony of Maldives Accounting Forum 2021 with an important speech encouraging local bodies to broaden their knowledge in the accounting field. He emphasized on the growing needs of expanding financial needs and taxation upkeep from commercial and government organizations, stressing the growing necessity to broaden the role of local accountants and auditors at the forum.
At the event held at Crossroads, President stated that the government would provide assistance required by the Institution of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives particularly in exploring opportunities to train more accountants. Furthermore, the President provided insight into the government's efforts to expand the profession, stating that the Chartered Accountants Act was endorsed and brought into effect last year with the essential objective of facilitating required professional training and tools.
Additionally, President stressed the significance of accounting stating that it supports democratic accountability by permitting more openness in public and private sector firms, thereby closing gaps in the system that allow for corruption. He claimed that it will help to boost credibility while also encouraging good governance values. Representatives from the Maldives Institute of Chartered Accountants also presented the President with a commemorative plaque at the ceremony.
