Ministry Of Health Sets 100% Markup In Profit For Essential Medicine In Maldives

Ministry of Health announces the markup increment to 100% on retail essential prescription drugs to be sold in pharmacies starting from January 2022 onwards. The decision was made in accordance with Health Services Act. The ministry also plans to extend the markup change to all medicine imported sometime next year. The decision was made after the Finance Minister, Ibrahim Ameer had made a statement on the decision of enforcing Maximum Retail Price.

The announcement was made on Sunday, November 13^th, in order to give the public enough time to prepare for the change that will be effective from January 2022 onwards. The decision will give a positive affect on the waste of taxpayer’s money, reduce the spending by the state as well as the private citizens in healthcare services.
