One of the worst terror of this year, the COVID-19 pandemic initially surfaced at Wuhan in China at the end of 2019. Whilst all the effected countries are on the road of recovery at the moment and slowly easing movement restrictions, China still remains closed for international outbound travel. However, they are deemed as the largest source of tourist market for Maldives. During last year, a total number of 284,372 tourists arrived to Maldives from China. As a result, Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom indicated earlier that there have been plans to allow tourist arrivals to Maldives from China at the earliest date possible.
For this purpose, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) have successfully concluded a series of webinar sessions targeted towards Chinese travel trade partners. A total of ten sessions were under the series between 29th May and 16th October to establish Maldives as the most preferred tourist festinated for Chinese holidaymakers. More than 2370 travel agents took part in the webinar series from all parts of China and was conducted in Chinese Language.
The first five sessions were focused on a comprehensive presentation of the Maldives tourism sector disseminating information regarding tourist products and airlines seen here. In the remaining sessions, travel partners from Maldives were given the opportunity to market themselves. Every session was conducted with specific discussion topics in the interest of Chinese holidaymakers. At the end of each session, participants were facilitated with an interactive Q&A session to address their queries.
MMPRC received positive feedback from the participants of the webinar series.
