MACL Officially Opens VIA’s Expanded West Apron

Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) is the main operator of Velana International Airport (VIA), Maldives that are massively involved in destination marketing and bringing new airlines to the country, boosting the tourism industry. MACL has embarked on major projects developing VIA such as development of a brand-new international passenger terminal, a new code F runway, a new cargo terminal complex and a new fuel farm along with hydrant system and major infrastructure growths.

To mark another remarkable progress, MACL officially opens the VIA’s expanded west apron on November 4th, 2021. The opening was celebrated with a welcoming water salute for the arrival of Maldivian Q2707 flight from India.

The apron has 9 aircraft stands that will accommodate both domestic and international flights. To comply with ICAO safety requirements, the trials for this apron were done on October 2021. The opening event was adorned by MACL CEO & Managing Director, Gordon Andrew, Island Aviation Services Managing Director, Mohamed Mihad and the Airline Operator Committee’s Chairman, Mahjoob Abdulla.
