Life Jackets Are Mandatory In Vessels 9 Meters Or Small

After the recent incidents at sea, the Transport Authority updated a strict guideline of mandating life jackets in order to establish a safe travelling opportunity for the public through out the country.

As per the new guideline published in gazette, life jackets are mandatory in vessels travelling in 9 meters or less in size, it is prohibited to travel in the unsafe alerted zones in the sea (vessels for all sizes), vessels travelling for water sports that are 9 meters or less.

If any crew in the vessels do not abide by these rules, they are eligible for a fine of MVR 15,000 for first offence license removal for three months. If the offence is repeated, then the person will be fined along with license removed for one year.
