The Minister of Environment, Climate Change & Technology, Aminath Shauna is representing Maldives at the United Nations 26th Climate Change Conference this year, fighting for the positive climate change actions to be taken by the developed countries.
Maldives is a country connected directly to the environment; hence the climate changes affect our coral reefs, affecting the local islands from fresh water, resulting in the negative effects in exhausted baitfish and desecrated farms. Minister Shauna will be calling out to the largest countries to dramatically reduce emissions in order to keep the global warming within 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Minister Shauna will also be highlighting on the Paris Agreement where the developed countries have agreed to spend 100 billion dollars in support of the environment annually. After a gap of 12 years, the president of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will also be participating in support of the course.
As said by the famous climate change activist, “We won’t have a society if we destroy the environment” Margaret Mead.
