Ending TB in the Maldives by 2025

A delegation of the Ministry of Health led by Minister Ahmed Naseem has participated in a 1-day virtual meeting held as part of the High-level meeting for renewed TB response in the WHO South-East Asia Region. 
 
Minsters of Health of countries in WHO South-East Asia Region participated in the event. Deliberations were held on the ongoing efforts to end TB in the respective countries, and the challenges to the efforts.  
 
Despite being a preventable and curable disease, TB is the world’s top infectious killer. Members committed to renew and accelerate efforts to end tuberculosis, in view of the pandemic disrupting services and leading to increase in TB cases in the already high-burden Region by 2030.

Speaking at the event, Minister Naseem shared confidence in the nationwide efforts to end TB in the Maldives, aiming to achieve the target before ahead in the timeline. He invited international donors and partners to collaborate with Maldives in our joint efforts.
