This is a big moment for the best friends, India and Maldives in their relationship and here is all you need to know about it! India is gearing up to commence seaplane operations for the very first time in the country with help from an expert in the field and the national airline of Maldives, Maldivian Aero.
For those who may have questions as to what is a seaplane and why it is different from a normal aircraft, it is designed land or take off from water with a fixed-wing having the speed of an airplane but the utility of a boat. The seaplane operations will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi on 31st October 2020; in marking the birth anniversary of India’s first Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Sardar Patel.
It is projected to be operated by Spice Jet Airline with assistance from pilots and crewmembers from Maldivian Aero. In this regard, they have scheduled to operate up to 8 flights per day between Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad and the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, inclusive of arrivals and departure.
Spice Jet and Maldivian Aero will be using a 19-seater seaplane will be used for the operations allowing to carry 14 passengers onboard at a time. Tickets approximately will cost ₹4,800 per person.
A crew of 6 from Maldivian Aero has departed earlier to India for preparations.
