Authorities Warn of an Influenza Outbreak in the Maldives

Health Protection Agency has warned the community to be on the outlook for an Influenza outbreak if things continue in the current pace. Stated by Epidemiologist Dr. Ibrahim Afzal on the rising concerns of spreading flu amid the Covid19 pandemic, stronger actions need to be taken against the spread of Influenza and other common colds and flu.

“We are at the verge of an outbreak,’ he explained. In the past month alone, a total exceeding 3700 influenza cases were reported in the Maldives. Most cases reported are observed in youth between the age of 18-45, following children aged 6-12.

Preventive measures that can be taken against the spread of Influenza are similar to those we take against Covid19. Wash your hands frequently, wear a mask at all times, take plenty of rest at home if sick, and as per the authorities, only go to the hospital or visit the sick if necessary.
