No Plastic Maldives and BML Collaborate on Initiative to Eliminating Single-Use Plastic Bags

No Plastic Maldives, an NGO working towards taking up initiatives advocating on the elimination of the single-use plastic in the Maldives, has partnered with Bank of Maldives for their newest campaign to introduce cloth bags in the islands.

Taken up as part of their ongoing campaign ‘Ulhumah Badhal’, No Plastic Maldives hopes to encourage islanders to make simple switches to cloth bags instead of single-use plastic that is already polluting our fragile world.

In collaboration with the selected island councils and women development committees in these islands, No Plastic Maldives will be facilitating the making and distributing, or even selling in some islands, to the communities. BML will generously be contributing two sewing machines to each island.

Islands selected for this campaign are; Dhiffushi, Maafaru, Velidhoo, Hithadhoo in Addu City, Maafushi, Guraidhoo, Kudahuvadhoo, Rasdhoo, Ukulhas, and Gan in Laamu Atoll.

President of No Plastic Maldives, Ahmed Numan hopes to empower participants of this campaign and establish a sustainable means of switching to a more environment-friendly lifestyle. The initiative will also create opportunities for local islanders to earn an income through the initiative, further enticing more people to take part in the campaign.
