UNWTO SG Zurab Pololikashvili Meets Maldivian Finalists of UNWTO Plastic Challenge

The Secretary Genral of UNWTO, Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili is currently in the Maldives, and has taken time from his busy schedule to meet and congratulate the finalists of the UNWTO Students League Plastic Challenge.  
 
Over 1000 students making up 155 teams in total from 45 countries participated in this global challenge. Amongst them, 3 teams from the Maldives were selected as finalists. They are the teams from Thajudeen School, Maradhoo School, and B Atoll School.  
 
Mr. Pololikashvili expressed immense pride in this achievement by the Maldivian teams. He also recognized the hard work and support by the teachers and parents in motivating their children to excel in such areanas. As tourism is synonymous to the Maldives, Mr. Pololikashvili urged the education providers in the Maldives to encourage more students to take part in contributing to building a sustainable industry.  
 
As an honor for the SG, team from Thajudeen School presented Mr. Pololikashvili with a drawing made from recycled plastic bottle caps.  
 
Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom also participated in the meeting and congratulated the finalists. He said that with such promising talent, the ministry is considering holding a special exhibition to display upscaled crafts made from recycled and reused materials in line with the exciting activities planned for the Golden Year of Tourism celebrations in the Maldives next year. It will be planned in collaboration with the MInistry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Education.
