Tourism Industry Stakeholders Discuss Tourist Establishment Classification at Workshop by MOT

Tourism Ministry has conducted a workshop on Tourist Establishment Classification for industry stakeholders. The aim of the discussions held during the workshop were in line with the Government’s Strategic Action Plan 2019 – 2023 which focuses on the development of local tourism in the Maldives.

As part of the planned efforts, participants deliberated on the legal changes that need to be brought about in the system in order to establish a standard classification system. As emphasized by Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom in his opening speech at the gathering. Points were raised on different categories of establishments around the world, their names, features, services provided, and so on for reference.

Furthermore, the dialogues between members also touched upon the ‘one island – one resort’ concept in the Maldives for resort establishments, and how the narrative can be further enhanced in promoting the product ideally. Similarly, scope and terminology for integrated, local, and homestay tourism along with potentially new products that can be introduced into Maldivian tourism were discussed.

The workshop was held yesterday at Salt Café and Restaurant. Members from tourism associations, relevant ministries and other entities took part in the workshop.
