EPA Warns of Measures Being Taken Against Harming Protected Wildlife in the Maldives

Around this time, migratory birds from different parts of the world find a pitstop in the secluded islands of the Maldives. Such wildlife is protected by law, ensuring that no human harm can be given to the birds upon encounter. However, Environment Protection agency has shared concern of news of such acts on several occasions.

Law states that protected birds should not be caught, restrained, and harmed in any manner. Therefore, EPA has urged islanders to immediately stop catching migratory birds with nets and other capturing devices when they are sighted in open land areas. These birds play a vital role in the natural ecosystem, maintaining the surge of bugs and mosquitoes in the monsoon season.

EPA has also strictly warned of imposing a fine under law on those who are convicted for harming any protected birds.
