The Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin has been awarded to His Excellency Abdulla Shahid. This highly dignified recognition is a tribute to Sultan al-Ghazi Hassan Izzuddin Sri Kula Ranmiba Kahthiri Bawana Maharadun. It is honored to exceptional individuals for their service to the government. Abdulla Shahid was recognized for his tireless efforts to promote and better the Maldives’ foreign sector and expand its diplomatic footprint in the international arena.
The laurels was presented by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on a special ceremony held to mark this year’s National Day at the Republic Square. Abdulla Shahid is also the current Minister of the Foreign Affairs, and the first Maldivian to throne the United Nations’ General Assembly as the President (76th session).
Since 1983, Abdulla Shahid has been contributing to the Maldives foreign sector in various regards, reaching the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs in August 23, 2007 and remained Iat service until the end of President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom’s term. He was re-elected to the title soon after President Solih was sworn in, and proposed to the UNGA Presidency on his account as well.
Abdulla Shahid continues to do tremendous work in the foreign sector of the Maldives in maintaining and establishing diplomatic relations with nations around the globe in his capacity as the Foreign Minister and the President of UNGA76.
