Expired Identification Allowed to Be Used in Domestic Travel

In a statement issued to all local airline operators, airport operators and aviation security command, the Ministry of Defense has stated that expired official identification documents may be allowed for domestic travel.

Due to the new document issuance process facing challenges amid the pandemic restrictions, many complaints were filed regarding the difficulties in making local travel arrangements. Therefore, the following documents will be allowed for check-in and check-out at Maldivian airport, making reservations, purchasing tickets, and passing through security check points.

They are:

  • Passport
  • National identification card
  • Work visa card
  • License card
  • Airport security pass
  • Official photo identification documents issued by government authorities

Public is advised to not misuse this relief and to ensure that identification documents are updated at the earliest possible.
