Vice President Reassures Prioritizing Recruitment of Healthcare Workers

A team from Ministry of Health including senior officials have met with the Vice President yesterday. The team was accompanied by representatives from the Ministry’s council. 
 
Attendees include Health Minister, Ahmed Naseem, Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan, Special Advisor on Social Policy at the President's Office, Dr. Mustafa Lutfi and Minister of State for Health, Dr. Shah Abdulla. Several senior officials from Medical Council, Nursing Council and Allied Health Council also joined. 
 
Discussions focused on finding solutions for the various challenges in providing effective healthcare across the archipelago were held during the meeting. Council members primarily discussed the collective difficulties in staffing, and the need for proper budgeting for annual activities, and various administrative challenges observed in carrying out their duties. Additionally, deliberations were held on a number of other issues concerning the efficient operation of councils and the improvement of healthcare in the Maldives. 
 
Vice President Faisal Naseem emphasized on the importance of implementing efficient plans for the healthcare system to develop concurrently. He also spoke of the recently rolled out programme to develop additional human resources in healthcare, which alternatively was suggested by council members to include age-related teachings beginning with elementary levels of education.  
 
The meeting ended with Vice President updating the members on the current projects underway to establish five tertiary hospitals across the country. He reassured that recruiting healthcare workers will be prioritized.
