‘Split Stay’ basically refers opting be accommodated at more than one place during the same stay. Maldives is a popular holiday destination worldwide as it being a tropical paradise geographically separated by beautiful coral islands surrounded by a limitless crystalline blue sea. As a result, in order to accommodate the large number of tourist arrivals to the country, over the years we have accumulated numerous tourist facilities such as resorts, hotels, guesthouses and even live aboard sea vessels.
Currently, a main focus of the Maldivian government and other stakeholders has been recovering the tourism industry of the country which has been deeply affected by the impacts of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Enabling ‘Split Stay’ for tourists is an addition to the long list of incentives to #VisitMaldives post border reopening.
In this regard, the Ministry of Tourism was pleased to announce that split-stays have been permitted for all types of tourist accommodation. As per the Ministry, approval must be obtained by all interested facilities as per the procedure and guidelines set out by them. For this purpose, split-stay permission will only be granted to facilities which meets all mandated requirements under the ‘Split Stay Guideline’ approved by the Health Protection Agency. All split-stay requests must be informed to the Ministry prior to travelling dates.
Allowing split-stays is envisioned to encourage tourists to extend their stays as they could experience a holiday with access to accommodation at varying facilities, each catering its own unique services.
