Dhiraagu Pledges to Advocate on Childhood Cancer in Collaboration with Cancer Society of Maldives Campaign

Childhood Cancer is fast becoming a global crisis according to the latest reports by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, with the worst hitting region being Asia. An estimate 6-7% of Maldivian cancer patients are below the age of 19, affected most commonly by Leukemia and Brain Cancer.  
 
Dhiraagu is building on its pledge to fully support the Cancer Society of Maldives for yet another year of advocating for Cancer awareness in children, considering the lack of general awareness among the public in regards to the matter.  
 
Childhood Cancer Awareness Campaign run by Cancer Society of Maldives has been supported by Dhiraagu since 2018. This years’ campaign that has kicked off as a mass awareness initiative will advocate on childhood cancer, its risk factors, warning signs, psychological impact and reintegration back into school and society after cancer.  
 
A series of specially curated educational videos will be released as part of the campaign. They will highlight patient stories, journey back to the community and how the public can contirubute. An exciting art competition will also be revealed as part of the campaign, targeting the school audience in efforts of spreading information on childhood cancer.  
 
"In the beginning of the month of this September, we lit up a gold ribbon in our head office building to draw attention to childhood cancer awareness and to pledge our support to the campaign.” mentions Athifa Ali, Dhiraagu Director Corporate Services as she speaks on this key CSR programme of Dhiraagu.  
 
Juwairiya Saeed, Chairperson of Cancer Society of Maldives stated in thanks to Dhiraagu’s continued support to the campaign and the NGO, “We look forward to working together to make a difference.”
