Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a yellow alert for the entirety of the Maldives.

The White Alert issued initially for the regions was revised to an Orange Alert this morning at 10:00hrs and finally revised to a yellow alert, in place from 12:30hrs to 16:30hrs. 
The Yellow Alert warns us of anticipates torrential rain and thunderstorms with strong winds of 25 – 30 mph, gusts of 50 mph, and rough seas, and the occurrence of swell wave surges in this region. 
 
Met Office has also advised that this monsoon season will become strong over the Maldives area: Accordingly, widespread rain, occasionally heavy showers, strong winds, and rough seas are expected for the subsequent days. 
 
Maldives National Defense Force has issued a statement advising seafarers to be cautious amid the bad weather conditions.  Seafarers have been advised to check the latest weather updates before embarking on journeys and to make sure communication devices, lifejackets and pumps are in working order.  Maldivian Red Crescent has also urged members of the public to take precautionary measures against flooding and to avoid trips via sea.  Maldives Meteorological Service has also advised commuters on the bridge and highway between Male’ City and suburban Hulhumale’ to take extra precautions. 
 
National Disaster Management Authority states it is monitoring the situation in the atolls and they’ve advised us to take these precautionary measures!

  • Tie-down things that could be lifted by the wind  
  • Take caution while driving
