The Maldives Statistics Act lays out the guidelines for the collection, analysis, usage, and publication of national statistics, under an established national standard, aiming to advance the statistics industry in the country and to collect relevant data regarding the Maldives' various facets and factors to be used for the betterment of the nation.
The objective of this act is to develop the statistics industry and to collect pertinent data regarding Maldive's economy, ecology, and social aspects so that data can be utilized for the good of the citizens. This act demands the foundation of the Maldives Bureau of Statistics which would serve as an independent entity in charge of planning and operation of all national activities related to the field
The Act also mandates the establishment of a Statistical Council, comprising of 10 members, to provide counsel on all matters related to the field. Minister of National Planning, Housing & Infrastructure, Honorable Mohamed Aslam has appointed the members on 17th September 2021
