President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed, accompanied by a high-level delegation has departed to New York City, United States this morning. The President will be attending the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The 76th session of UNGA is a historic milestone for the Maldives with the United Nations, as for the first time, the presidency is led by a Maldivian. The newly elected President of the General Assembly for the 76th session of UNGA is Foreign Minister of the Maldives, Abdulla Shahid. He won the election with an overwhelming support of majority votes. The support not only demonstrates the acceptance of Maldives into the international democratic arena, but also the confidence world leaders instill in Maldivians to continue advocating for several global causes, notably as a climate change champion.
On Tuesday, September 21, the President will deliver his address at the 76th session of UNGA, following participation in several bilateral and multilateral discussions with state and government leaders during his time in New York.
The tour will end on Tuesday, September 28 for the President, First Lady and the high-level delegation.
