President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has launched the "gov.mv message" service by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology on Tuesday alongside Minister Aminath Shauna.
This innovative service allows users to send formal letters to any government organization with the first-time-ever standardized letter tracking service across the government.
Speaking at the inauguration, President Solih stated that "Establishing a digital identity will exponentially increase access to government services and help speed up service delivery". He further highlighted that this service will conveniently relieve the public of the current challenges in officially submitting requests, concerns, and complaints regarding different matters.
In order to make the use of this service more effective, President Solih urged each institution's Service Level Agreement (SLA) be made public, and to include response timelines to clarify the process even more to the users. Individuals have a right to file complaints against requests that go against the charter which will be viewed by both the institution and the President's Office.
In September, the administration submitted a bill to the People’s Majlis on facilitating electronic communication in efforts to alleviate and address the current legal obstacles in implementing a digital identity. Work is also underway on the 'data protection and privacy bill' that outlines protecting personal and private information stored digitally. Moreover, a ‘cybercrime bill’ is being compiled to strengthen the safety of the internet for public use.
The current administration strives to develop a digital identity for every Maldivian in two years to come.
