Abdulla Shahid Begins A New Era as Official President of the UN General Assembly for the 76th Session

Abdulla Shahid, Foreign Minister of the Maldives has officially assumed his role in the Presidency of the UN General Assembly for the 76th Session. The ceremony was held on Monday. 
 
The event marks an incredible milestone of the Maldivian diplomatic presence in the international sphere. The small island nation takes pride in making significant and bold commitments at the UNGA. Having made groundbreaking differences through a tumultuous, historic, transformative, unequal, and challenging time, UNGA President Shahid rose to the throne with a promise to the world to keep daring them to dream, and push forward with the presidency of Hope.  
 
UNGA President Shahid reassured to the people that the leaders they look up to at the UN are working closely for a brighter, better, greener, bluer, resilient and hopeful future. He reiterated on his agenda to place humanity at the core of all decisions, the world will soon recover from COVID19, and simultaneously adopt a forward-thinking approach to socio-economic recovery as well. UNGA President Shahid stated that targeted interventions for countries with special situations will be necessary during his presidency.  
 
He further touched upon #RespondingToNeedsOfPlanet calling for collective ambition and action to deliver a change, and #RespectingRightsOfAll, standing firm in his will to only participate in those panels that are gender balanced.
