President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was presented letters of credence by the three esteemed, newly appointed representatives of their respective nations:
The esteemed officials presented their credentials to the President during a special ceremony held this afternoon at the President’s Office.
President Solih welcomed the Argentine Ambassador to the Maldives, congratulating him on his appointment and expressing his gratitude to the Argentine Republic for their support towards the Maldives’ candidature during the 76th United Nations General Assembly elections, in June 2021. President Solih stated that the Maldives hopes to see further collaboration between the two countries, especially in the areas of tourism, sustainable development, and upholding human rights and climate change
Ambassador Gobbi stated that he hopes the Maldives would continue receiving support, assistance, and engagement from Argentina. The Ambassador agreed, and both affirmed their commitment to collaborate further for the mutual benefit of both countries.
The President also welcomed the new Ambassador of Hungary to the Republic of Maldives to the Maldives and congratulated him on the commencement of his term highlighting how Maldives and Hungary have made positive strides in cultivating bilateral ties over the years
the President noted that the Maldives and Argentina may explore new avenues of cooperation in higher education. In response, the Ambassador offered his commitment to expanding cooperation in this field, stating that their government is working to provide fully-funded scholarship opportunities to Maldivian students. The Ambassador also expressed interest to assist in food security, tourism, and water management. He noted that Hungary is keen to explore mutually beneficial investment opportunities in the Maldives.
President welcomed the new Non-Resident High Commissioner of the Republic of Mauritius to the Republic of Maldives and congratulated her on the commencement of her term and expressed his confidence that during her tenure the existing bilateral relations between the two countries would further strengthen.
President Solih and the High Commissioner also discussed the common challenges and vulnerabilities faced by Mauritius and the Maldives as Small Island Developing States. Further discussions were carried out on a variety of topics of mutual interest such as expanding opportunities for trade and commerce, increasing the current levels of exports and imports between the Maldives and Mauritius, further strengthening cooperation in the field of tourism, strengthening sustainable development, climate change, and other multilateral cooperation.
The President and the Ambassadors concluded the meeting by expressing their hope that the current relationship between all parties would be strengthened in the coming days.
