Abdulla Shahid Joins the Fight Against Gender Inequality!

President of the 76th United Nations General Assembly, United Nations General Assembly: Abdulla Shahid, humbly extends gratitude as he is pleased to join other #INTGenderChampions in committing to promoting women's empowerment & gender equality to make gender parity a reality.

“A true honor to be counted among the #INTGenderChampions in New York. Gender equality is not only the RIGHT thing to do, it is the SMART thing to do - for development, human rights, and peace and security. Gender equality will be a key priority throughout the Presidency of Hope” stated Abdulla Shahid in a vote of confidence in the current government's plans to tackle this crucial social issue.

“Our resolve on sustainable development is predicated on leaving no one behind. The inclusion of voices of women and girls is critical. The UN must empower women and girls, in all their diversity, from all walks of life, from all regions, and from all age groups, to contribute to discussions on sustainable development, human rights, and peace and security.” Inspiring words shared by Abdulla Shahid, in hopes of highlighting that it takes a people, not a singular person to bring about these changes.

Abdulla Shahid also took the time to put the spotlight on some of his Personal Commitments to tackling the issue:

  •  Ensure gender parity in the composition of my cabinet.
  • Require mandatory training courses on gender equality and on the prevention of sexual harassment for staff of the Office of the President of the 76th General Assembly.

Gender inequality is a vast machine, composed of unequal voting rights, unequal access to education, patronizing misogyny in our daily lives. We need to break all these chains!
