The 74th Session of Regional Committee for WHO South-East Asia has begun virtually today. This annual event is continuing for a second year on the virtual governance platform given the ongoing global pandemic.
Scheduled to take place from September 6 – 10, Ministry of Health’s delegation is led by the State Minister Dr. Shah Abdulla Mahir. Senior officials of the health sector of 11 regional countries are taking part in this event. Main focus of the deliberations during this high-level governance will be given to making key decisions in favor of the greater good of the communities in the participating countries.
Ministers participating in the event will be sharing the latest updates on the current Covid19 situations in the country, and the measures to be planned for the future recovery phase. Moreover, measures that can be taken on a regional level to combat the spread and help revive economies will also be talked about. Additionally, a petition stating the improvements that can be implemented for a stronger healthcare management system during the pandemic is scheduled to be voted upon.
Further discussions on the governance agenda include control of the spread of highly contagious diseases, HIV, Viral Hepatitis, and STI. Decisions will also be made in regards to proposing and setting an annual budget for the years 2022 and 2023 for regional use.
