All new enrollees to the Girls to Code Kulhudhuffushi program have been warmly welcomed on the opening ceremony held on the occasion on Tuesday. The 2-month program has kicked off yesterday, with the blessings of officials from Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives. This is the 3rd edition of the series which comes following Girls to Code Fuvahmulah and Girls to Code Thinadhoo.
With hopes of encouraging young girls to venture into the competitive yet immensely potential coding field of technology, the Girls to Code series is an initiation of Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives.
During the opening ceremony, Director of Corporate Services of Dhiraagu, Athifa Ali appreciated the growing support from different islands across the nation for the program. This proves that as more girls become aware of the opportunities that await them, their interest in exploring the field of technology shows significantly.
She further highlighted the massive achievements of previous participants of the program. President of Womnen in Tech Maldives, Hindh Ali added to this by encouraging the new enrollments to build on the foundation they will learn from the program. She shared the importance of keeping up with the fast-moving world in her speech, and added that continued learning will inspire the participants to discover innovative inclusions of the knowledge they gain into their daily life.
The program is conducted virtually for girls between the age of 14 – 20. The fresh participants were not required to have any previous knowledge or experience in the field, giving them a clean slate to begin with. Most notably, the sessions are FREE of charge.
Students will learn how to develop a website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript by the end of the program. Each of them will be given the opportunity to present their own website and demonstrate the learning at the end.
