Spokesperson Updates on Latest Progress of Government Activities

On Wednesday afternoon, Spokesperson at The President’s Office held a media meet to update on the latest progress of the ongoing government initiatives. Below are key highlights of the information shared during the meeting. 

Progress of the Public Sector Investment Program Projects 
Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) - 27 water and sewerage development projects ongoing in different islands across the nation 
FENAKA Corporation – 19 projects including powerhouse relocation projects and construction of new buildings completed, similar projects underway in 10 different islands 
Maldives Transport and Construction Company (MTCC) - harbor upgrade of L. Isdhoo completed, 4 major urban development projects initiated in L. Fonadhoo, B. Thulhaadhoo, G.A. Dhaandhoo and H.A. Ihavandhoo 

Upcoming Urban Development Projects Updates 
Line of Credit for Sports Development in the Maldives - today, signing of a LOC for the development of sports infrastructure such as youth centers would be constructed in different areas of the nation will take place.  
Funding from the LOC will also be allocated for: 

  • Upgrades to the Galolhu Stadium 
  • Establishment of a new National Table Tennis Centre, National Volleyball Court and National Basketball Centre 
  • Construction of synthetic running tracks in G.Dh. Thinadhoo, Kulhudhuffushi City, Addu City, Fuvamulah City 
  • Indoor Sports Complex to be erected in Kulhudhuffushi City 


Updates on the Health Sector and National Covid19 Vaccination Drive 

  • A team of specialists dedicated to conducting a detailed project review on the Cancer Hospital to be developed in L. Gan will arrive in the Maldives on next week  
  • Roughly 30,000 eligible people over the age of 18 still not received even a single dose of Covid19 vaccine. Mabrook emphasized that majority of this number are currently residing outside of Maldives, and bedridden patients whose medical status do not recommend vaccination.  
  • 85% of the over-18 eligible population and 84% of children between the age of 12 and 18 have received their first dose.
