The world marks the month of October as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month for the purpose of increasing attention, support and awareness on the early detection and treatment as well as palliative care of this disease.
One of the main events we see in Maldives during this month is the ‘Pink Ribbon Run-Walk’ which is annually organized by the Cancer Society of Maldives in collaboration with Bank of Maldives Plc.as a campaign for breast cancer awareness. This year, they will be joined by Kodefly as the technological partner.
As the circumstances stands this year, the run will deviate from its usual course due to even a deadlier health hazard, the coronavirus pandemic which have already taken the lives of over one million people in just this year. Consequently, in practicing social distancing to minimize chances of transmission, you may join the run from wherever you please to show your support, virtually; very much like numerous other events held this year. You also have the discretion to dedicate your run to someone you know who has fought or is still fighting breast cancer. Your virtual run must be completed between 23rd October and 31st October.
You may register for the run through this link.
According to statistics, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer found in women. Around 458,000 deaths occur annually due to the diseases whereas up to 1.38 million new cases are recorded each year.
