Cargo Ship That Ran Aground Salvaged Successfully, Assessment of Damages Caused to Reef Underway

Gulf Craft’s Chairman Mohammed Hussein Alshaali welcomed a delegation from the Government of the Maldives to the Gulf Craft shipyard on Saturday. His Excellency Mohamed Aslam, Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Her Excellency Aishath Nahula, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation along with Adam Azim, CEO of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company were also present in the ceremony.  

The trip held on invitation by Gulf Craft Chairman and Gulf Craft Maldives General Manager Terry Stamatakos was organized after the shipyard was awarded an MTCC contract earlier this year, which will build a special high the fleet of high-quality speedboats is designed for the entire national integrated project.  

 The delegation visited the production facility where the shipyard's expert production team is building the ship, and was invited to learn about progress updates and inspect the boats, which will be delivered later in 2021. 

The new speedboat will provide a convenient and efficient transportation system for all administrative islands in the Maldives, which can carry up to 53 passengers at a time and connect the capital with nearby islands. These boats will be equipped with special packages for passengers traveling in emergency situations and will include stretchers and disabled access.  

Government officials praised Gulf Craft for its outstanding contribution to the Maldives economy. The public transport project is one of the government's most important initiatives and, when completed, will help connect the islands of the Maldives. 

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Maldives Gulf Craft, and the company has played a key role in developing the island nation's shipping network. Gulf Craft provides almost 80% of the Maldives’s water transport services which includes public transport, coast guard, emergency & ambulance services, resorts, and leisure sectors.
