Ministry of Education Responds to Rumors on Foreigner Teachers to Teach Islam Subject

Ministry of Education has issued a statement denying the rumors that state the Ministry is hiring foreign teachers to teach the subject Islam in schools.

In the statement, the Ministry detailed the discussions held with the May6 Security Committee of the People’s Majlis on Thursday. It was conducted following recommendations related to the education system in the Maldives in the report by the committee on the May 6 terror attack on the Former President Mohamed Nasheed.

Based on the syllabus for the subject Islam which is made completely in the Dhivehi language, and the availability of well trained and educated local teachers, there is no need to switch the subject syllabus to another language.
