The Government Of Japan Provides a Grant Aid Of 110 Million Japanese Yen

The Japanese government has provided 110 million Yen (approximately US $ 998,000) in the form of grants to the Maldives to continue the scholarship opportunities (JDS) provided by the Japanese government under the Japan Human Resources Development Project in the year 2022. 6 Masters level scholarships will be awarded to study in Japan this year too under the agreement.

On July 15, 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdullah Shahid and Her Excellency Yanai Keiko, the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, signed an exchange of letters on grant assistance at a ceremony held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This year, this grant will be used again to provide full scholarships to 6 Maldivian students. The project was also implemented by the Japanese government last year to further promote human resource development in the Maldives.

The Minister of Higher Education, His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim Hassan, and the Permanent Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Mr. Kawasaki Mitsuyoshi, signed the agreement at a ceremony held on August 26, 2021 by the Ministry of Higher Education. The ceremony was attended by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Embassy of Japan and the JICA.

The Japanese government has always been a constant partner of the Maldives and has contributed to the development of the Maldives' social, environmental and educational sectors.
