Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Aminath Shauna visits the Maldives’ Dump Island, Thilafushi to oversee the on-going project of modernizing waste management by the ministry with the Managing Director of WAMCO, Adam Ahmed and other officials.
Minister Shauna has high hopes that once the waste management project is complete by the upcoming months, it will bring a drastic change to the ways Maldives has been practicing waste management since 1992. By modernizing the facility, the smoke damage done to the environment due to the burning of waste will be reduced helping the country become more environmentally friendly and brings hope to a greener future.
The waste-to-energy plant project that is in works by the Ministry in Thilafushi will be able to produce 8 megawatts of energy from 500 tons of waste daily. The project is valued to MVR 2.33 Billion.
