VP Calls on Better Coordination to Maintain and Improve Decentralized Healthcare

The senior management of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital has met with Vice President Faisal Naseem on Monday morning. The meeting was held at the hospital, and participants conveyed concerns and difficulties faced in managing the hospital with the VP.

Officials of IGMH updated the VP on their plans for service improvement at the hospital. This includes the priority upgrade of the services to an online medium in efforts to reduce physical contact wherever possible. There are many challenges such as shortage of staff and financial restrains to efficiently carry out the plans, and the concerns were addressed by the VP.

VP Faisal was appreciative of the tireless efforts of the staff at IGMH amid the pandemic, and stressed the need to further develop and improve healthcare throughout the country to mitigate the need to travel abroad or to Malé City to seek medical services. He emphasized on the growth of atoll hospitals, regional hospitals and tertiary hospitals during the pandemic, with the support of IGMH.

There needs to be a better coordination in order to maintain and improve decentralized healthcare, said the VP. He assured that he would direct the relevant government agencies to resolve the issues raised.

After the discussions, VP toured the IGMH Stroke Centre and Centre for Mental Health, and conversed with staff at the centers. He urged them to be helpful, compassionate and caring to clients and patients in service delivery.
