Maldives Making Exemplary Progress Amid Pandemic, Says Mabrook

The latest updates on the developments in the Governmet’s activities have been shared with the media on Monday by Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Mohamed Mabrook Azeez at a media-meet held at the President’s Office.

The focus of the revelations was on the national economic recovery efforts and Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP) projects initiated to recover the Maldivian economy following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mabrook stated that the primary effort in the battle against the pandemic in the nation has been the nation-wide immunization campaign, which has seen over 84% of the eligible population over 18 years of age now been vaccinated. Additionally, the recent inoculation of children above 12 years of age has covered 84% of the eligible population. In comparison to the rest of the world, Maldives has made significant progress with vaccination, said Mabrook.

The revival of the nation’s economy is headed towards notable progress, as highlighted by Mabrook. He stated that the total tourist arrivals in August 2021 has already surpassed that of tourist arrivals in July 2021, and it moderately equals to that of August 2020.

The promising trend is supported by the minimal travel restrictions in the destination, however, stakeholders all need to ensure that responsible uphold of the regulation is maintained for the trend to continue as is. Mabrook further highlighted that relevant authorities are tirelessly performing the necessary efforts to assure safety to both tourists and service providers.

Answering media questions later on during the conference, Mabrook clarified various public interest issues. He also urged the media to encourage the public to get vaccinated as soon as they can.
