“Chasing Justice Maldives” – The Study on Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists

The report from Maldives Journalists Association, Chasing Justice Maldives – The study on impurity for crimes against journalists is co-authored with the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), giving a broad picture of the violence encountered by Maldivian journalists. The research details the many forms of violence and threats that journalists face, as well as the nature and frequency of various types of offenses.

The President of MJA, Mohamed Hamdhoon reflected on the report to be used as a baseline for the Maldivian Government to start its works towards protecting the freedom of expression and the press as well as enhancing the safety of the journalists of Maldives.

Following up with this, IFJ urged the Maldivian Government to come up with a plan of action to address the issues mentioned in the report around freedom of expression, media rights violation and impunity on crime against journalists. IFJ also looks forward to assisting MJA on these issues in order to strengthen the Maldivian Media.
