Tourism Minster Takes Tourism Diversification and Localization to Haa Alif Atoll

Tourism in the Maldives might be the biggest revenue generating industry to the economy but till date, the potential of the industry has not been utilized to its fullest. This challenge is being battled by the introduction of the tourism Diversification and Localization plan, one intended to empower local islands to take up and heighten island tourism.

Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom is currently on tour in the northern-most atoll in the Maldives, at Haa Alif Atoll. Him and a dedicated team from the Tourism Ministry is taking the plan to the islands of Haa Alif, and meeting with island councils, Women’s Development Committees, and private stakeholders of the industry to introduce the concept, and discuss the requirements and challenges of the islanders, and to deliberate on potential solutions.

The tour started with Baarah, and continued on to Filladhoo, Muraidhoo, Vashafaru, and now Kelaa. By empowering islands in all corners of the nation to be a part of the industry, tourism in the Maldives is aimed to build back better with more inclusivity, and innovative ideas coming up in the near future.
